Obituary notes for Marhoom Miyadh Sir.

By Dr SLM RIFAI ( Naleemi)

I'm saddened  to hear the death of Marhoom Miyadh Sir. Marhoom Miyadh Sir is known to each one of us in our area in Hemmathagama.   He has taught to thousands of Muslim students not only in our area but also in many schools in many parts of the country. He has worked in many schools and taught English language for a long time. He is one of pioneer graduates from our area. He graduated from Peradeniya university with an Arts degree with English language as one core subjects. He is a dedicated teacher, writer, and a good translator as well.

He has Inspired many students from our area to go for higher education. I think that most of Hemmathagama boys and girls have learned English from him. For many years he and late Wahid Principal have been running tuition centres in our area for the benefit of our students. His tuition centre was famous for decades in our areas. Many people benefited from his knowledge and skills. He has been  a hardworking educationist and an excellent writer. He mastered language and in fact he has written a lot of poem and short stories in Tamil and English languages.

He was awarded Kalapushanam title for his literary works in Tamil language. He has been writing for some Tamil Newspapers since his university days. He was naturally talented in Tamil, Arabic and English languages. His contribution to Tamil language is highly appreciated by many Tamils literary societies. He interacted and developed a close connection with literary circles.

I'm fortunate enough to learn from  him.  When I was working at university,  he helped me to translate articles  into English. English language skills and more importantly his writing style is very attractive and inspiring.  He is a humble person and pious person.  He was getting on well with all people. I never saw him getting angry for anything in life.  He was always  helping for his students. He dedicated his life for teaching. He is very much honest in his teaching and worked hard in his teaching career. He never argued or disputed with anyone in life.

His writing and books are an intellectual asset for our community. He has been writing on different Islamic topics for daily news papers both in English and Tamil language for many decades. I hope that someone will collect all his literary works and publish as  a book.  Next generations of Muslim community could benefit from his work if someone publish his works. He  has been motivating our students to learn Arabic language. In fact, he was very much keen to teach Arabic for our students as he taught English language.

He is survived with his wife and children. His elder son Mahir Miyadh lives in Middlesbrough in the UK, and some other children also live abroad.

May Allah forgive him and reward him with Jennath al-Firdaus.
