The cabinet of Ministers today claimed it was unaware of the request made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa from the Maldivian Government with regard to the burial of Muslim Covid victims.
Cabinet Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the cabinet was not aware of the request put forth by the Government to bury Covid victims in the Maldives.
The Minister made the statement in response to a question raised by a journalist in this regard, during the weekly cabinet media briefing held today.
The matter was raised after Maldives Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid tweeted yesterday that Maldives President Ibrahim Solih is considering a special request made by Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to bury deceased Sri Lankan victims of COVID 19 in Maldives.
Stating that the cabinet had not discussed such a matter during its meeting yesterday (14), Minister Rambukwella said the media will be notified in this regard after the cabinet obtains relevant facts. (NewsWire)
