SLMC for the first time in the Central Provincial Council election history contested the elections as an independent party and won a seat from the Kandy District.

SLMC had to face a unfamiliar task as this was the first time they were contesting a provincial council elections from the Central Province as a Independent party.

Uwais Hajiyar, A Former Udnuwara Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman and a Provincial Council member both representing SLFP signed as SLMC's Chief Candidate just hours before the election nomination deadline. Uwais Hajiyar gathered massive support around him and SLMC as both SLFP'ers and SLMC'ers joined hands to ensure victory of Uwais Hajiyar & SLMC.

While sending a Thank you message to his voters through Import Mirror Uwais Hajiyar pointed out that he will work together with all people & parties without any difference in the next 5 years during his team as a Provincial Council Member to uplift the development in Kandy District and to enhance a harmony among all religions. He also requested every one to join hands with him without any differences during this term to make a better Kandy District. He also mentioned that with his victory it is understood that Kandy District has accept SLMC and its party policy and SLMC and himself will work towards the betterment of all communities.
