Obituary notes on Dr Hazik Marikar (Naleemi):

I deeply shocked and sadden with the sudden death of Shiekh Dr Hazik Marikar Naleemi today 27/01/2025.  Marhoom Dr Hazik hails from a very religious family from Matara in the Down South in Sri Lanka.  He is educated in his hometown in his primary education and after his GCSE O/L, he was selected to Jamiah Naleemiah to continue his higher education in Islamic studies.  In his time at Jamiah, he devoted his life to master the sciences of Islamic studies. I still have a vivid memory of Dr Hazik in his days in Naleemiah. He has always been smiling and joking with all of us.  He was a studious, hardworking, pious and sincere student of Islam. I still remember him walking in the corridors of our classrooms at JN with books in his hands.  One of pioneers of Jamiah Naleemiah graduates who dedicated his entire life for Islamic dawah work.  He is fluent in Four languages. He excels in his Sinhala language skills and yet, has been very much fluent in Arabic and English. He has been communicating with me sometimes, using some flourishing English language. I really admired him for his beautiful English writing. He always excelled in his Arabic language skills as well.

He is a dynamic Islamic scholar with a profound and deep understanding of Islamic teaching.  I have been listening to his Friday sermons for many years. I really admire his beautiful Sinhala language skills and his moderation in his talks and Friday Sermons. He has been delivering his Friday Sermons for many years mostly in Sinhala language in Kuwait. Since, he migrated to Kuwait, his life mission and vision dramatically changed.  He has been a co-founder and executive member of IIC Kuwait, and he made a huge contribution to Dawa among Sri Lankan community in Kuwait. He has been delivering Friday sermons on current affairs and relevant topics. Not only in Sinhala language, but he has also been delivering some excellent sermons in Tamil language as well. He inspires many crowds among Sri-Lankan Muslim diaspora community in Kuwait.  He strongly believes that Islam is a complete way of life and a true salvation for humanity. All modern socio-economic and political problems can easily resolve if only humanity follows Islamic teaching.  This concept echoes in his talks and Friday sermons. He strongly believes that Islam provides solutions to all human problems.  He has been an advocate of moderate Islamic teaching. He displayed moderation in his taught, talks, discussions, attitudes, behaviours, habits and interaction.

He is highly knowledgeable and educated person to relate Islamic teaching to our modern contexts. He will never hurt the sentiments and feeling of anyone who listen to his Friday sermons. He is very soft-hearted person and once he visited London and I could not meet him and yet, I spoke to him, and his voice is still echoing in my ears.  In fact, He has been an Inspiration to all of us. Unlike many of us, he devoted his life truly for Allah with his skills, talent, knowledge and hardworking. He relentlessly worked in the field of Dawa work and promoting Islamic mission among all communities in Kuwait.

He successfully completed his Ph.D. and with that qualification, he uncompromisingly, devoted his knowledge and skills to Islamic missionary work. Many of us, spend our days, months and years without devoting our lives to the Islamic mission and yet, Marhoom Dr Hazik is honestly blessed personality.  Allah graced him with his Mercy and Blessing to dedicate his life for Islam. Unlike many of us indulge in materialistic life, he managed to comprehend the true meaning, purpose and mission of life rightly without any deviation in his path to Allah. He is truly blessed to stay steadfast in his mission and vision. He has imprinted unforgettable and pleasant memories in our life. He has left a legacy behind him. He has indeed produced a circle of Islamic dawah workers and devotees in Islamic missions. He managed to win the hearts and minds of thousands of Muslims and Non-Muslim people in Kuwait and beyond with his mesmerising and inspiring talks and speeches.  He rightly understood the nature of this life and His goals in this life. He never turned away from his mission.  His mission has been to please Allah and gain the Allah’s acceptance in his next life. This has been his primary aim in his missionary life. He never sought prime and prominence through his Islamic dawah work. His sincerity is very much clear in his humble and simple personality and charismatic characters. His legacy will remain in the minds and heart of us for a long time with this impressive missionary life. All praise to Allah, he successfully and meaningfully completed his earthly life in a beautiful way. Allah blessed him with a short life and yet, He blessed him with a meaningful and blessing life.  He is survived with his wife and children.

May Allah forgive him and grant his Al-Jannath Al-Firdaus. May Allah make it easy for his family, relative and friends.
