Several Parliamentarians of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), including former Ministers and Chief Minister of the North Western Province Dayasiri Jayasekera, have extended support to President Maithripala Sirisena.

The Parliamentarians and former Ministers includes Sarath Amunugama, Athauda Seniviratne and Reginold Cooray. They all met at Sirisena’s house at Wijeyrama this evening.

Former Minister Sarath Amunugama said that the SLFP had appointed Sirisena as the President of the party and former President’s Chandrika Kumarathunga and Mahinda Rajapaksa as patrons of the SLFP.

Earlier this afternoon, President Maithripala Sirisena, in his first address to the Nation as President of Sri Lanka, had invited all political parties represented in Parliament to join an all-party Government.

Speaking from Kandy outside the Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sirisena sought the support of Parliament to implement his policy statement on good governance and democracy.
