“Prime Minister’s statement not law” GMOA on Covid burial issue

The Prime Minister’s statement on permitting the burial of remains of Covid victims in Sri Lanka must have stemmed from the recommendations of experts, the Government Medical officers Association (GMOA) has revealed.

Editor of the GMOA Dr. Haritha Aluthge said that cremation was the only solution for Sri Lanka at present.

Stating that however, observing the practices world over with regard to Covid-19, either cremation, both cremation and burial like in foreign countries, or burial under strict conditions can be deemed as solutions for the issue.

Dr. Aluthge said the Prime Minister’s statement is not law, and the decision can only be implemented after a Gazette notification is published in this regard.
