Members of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) have called on its Leader Sajith Premadasa to suspend Rauff Hakeem and Rishard Bathiudeen from the alliance.

SJB MP Harin Fernando told NewsWire that a majority of party members have called for the suspension after the two MPs parties, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and All Ceylon Makkal Congress ACMC), had assisted the Government in obtaining a 2/3rds majority to pass the 20th Amendment to the Constitution in Parliament yesterday.

Four SLMC MPs voted in favour of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, while 2 from the ACMC also extended their support to the Government.

The SJB MPs believe that it was a strategy used by SLMC Leader Hakeem and ACMC Leader Bathiudeen to vote against the Amendment, while their party members provided the Government with the much required support to pass the Amendment.

The SJB MPs further consider that the two leaders should suspend the membership of their party members who voted in favour of the 20th Amendment.

SJB MP Harin Fernando further said that all party members will meet today to discuss the matter and draw a final decision on the suspension of Hakeem and Bathiudeen.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s journey will be limited to a short period if the party fails to draw a decision in this regard, he added.

The SJB has already announced that it will take disciplinary action against its National List MP Dayana Gamage who also voted in favour of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution. (NewsWire)
