இலங்கையில் அதிசய, அபூர்வமான வண்ணாத்திபூச்சி கண்டுபிடிப்பு
ஹற்றனில் பச்சை நிறத்திலான அதிசய வகை வண்ணத்து பூச்சி ஒன்று கண்டு பிடிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
அபூர்வ வகையிலான வண்ணத்து பூச்சி இன்று -12- காலை அடையாளம் காணப்பட்டுள்ளது.
இந்த வகை வண்ணத்து பூச்சிகள் இலைகளை உணவாக உட்கொண்டு வாழ்கின்றன. வண்ணத்து பூச்சிகள் இலையில் அமர்ந்திருக்கையில் அடையாளம் காண முடியாத வகையில் இலையை போன்று காட்சி தருவது சிறப்பம்சம்.
This is not butterfly. This is called leaf insect and it is widely available in Sri Lanka and is known for a long time.
ReplyDeleteSome 10 years before, Rajarata University(RU), when it was in Polgolla, had these insects grown in a glass tanks. It is easy to keep as it eats only leaves available in SL. It can be kept in homes like ornamental fish. So, this is not in a new unknown species category.
I have personaly fascinated by its life cycle hen I was visiting Lecturer in RU.
Surprisingly, its eggs are exactly like chick peas (Tamil: kadalai, Hindu : Chana). Its breeding is even more amazing.
Ants take these eggs underground and eat its thick wall type skins from which the baby leaf insect emerges. Even more amazing is that the baby leaf insects looks like exactly the step leafs in brown color and these babies stay near the stem leafs only to Camouflage(hide) themselves. Truely, the Creator
is great.
This is not a new finding, I hope many of us have seen these kind of insects around Srilanka from long time before.
