New IGP Pujith Arrests Narahenpita Ex-Crime OIC Over Thajudeen Murder

The CID today arrested former Crime OIC of Narahenpita Police, Champika Perera for allegedly concealing information over the murder of Ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen.

Thajudeen was found dead on May 17, 2012 inside his car which appeared to have crashed into a wall in Kirulapone, and the police initially ruled it was an accident.

However, subsequent to a fresh investigation, evidence has surfaced which shows that Thajudeen was in fact murdered.

Recently, Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Pieris ordered the CID to arrest everyone involved in the murder.

The arrest comes just hours after, Pujith Jayasundara was appointed as the country’s 34th Inspector General of Police. He received his letter of appointment from President Maithripala Sirisena this afternoon. Highly placed sources said that Jayasundara is fully aware of the culprits behind the murder of Thajudeen.

“We don’t know whether he was waiting for his time to take action…” a source told Colombo Telegraph. Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s sons, Namal and Yoshitha is alleged to be involved in the murder.
